MEET DR. GOLDSMITH

New Leadership Delivering Results for Our Community

Dr. Willie C. Goldsmith Jr. is a dedicated educator, administrator, and community servant, currently running for Birmingham City Council District 1. Born to Willie C. Goldsmith Sr. and Jessie M. Goldsmith—both respected teachers in Bibb County—Dr. Goldsmith was raised in Montevallo, AL, where he developed the strong values of education and public service that continue to guide his career.

 

Early Life and Education
Growing up in a family that prized learning and community involvement, Dr. Goldsmith attended Montevallo High School. Upon graduation, he joined the Army Reserve and embarked on his journey as an ROTC cadet at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). At UAB, he earned his Bachelor of Science and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army. His academic pursuits continued as he obtained a Master’s in Education and an Education Specialist Degree from UAB, followed by a doctorate in Educational Leadership from Argosy University.

Professional Journey in Education
With a career spanning 33 years in Alabama’s education system, Dr. Goldsmith has devoted 27 of those years to educational leadership. His administrative roles have had a profound impact on the lives of countless students and families. He has served as Assistant Principal at Jess Lanier High School and Huffman High School, and as Principal at several institutions including Huffman High School, Wenonah K-8, Jones Valley K-8, and Green Acres Middle. Currently, he leads as the Principal of Wenonah High School, where his commitment to excellence and positive influence are evident every day.

Community Involvement and Leadership
Beyond the classroom, Dr. Goldsmith is an active member of multiple professional and civic organizations such as the Alabama Educational Association (AEA), CLAS, the American Legion, Birmingham Principal Association, and the NAACP. His commitment to his community is further demonstrated through his involvement with Refresh Family Church, where he is a devoted member under the guidance of Apostle Stephen A. Davis. Additionally, as the neighborhood president for the Apple Valley Community, he has consistently worked to bring neighbors together and serve their collective needs.

Personal Life and Achievements
Dr. Goldsmith is married to Tanzania Goldsmith, and together they have raised three daughters: Tianna, Gabrielle, and Jessalynn. His excellence in education has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Metro Birmingham NAACP Golden Educator Award, Principal of the Year for Middle School, and the Alabama Association of Gifted Educators Principal of the Year, among others.

 

Driven by a lifelong commitment to public service and community enrichment, Dr. Willie C. Goldsmith Jr. continues to be a passionate advocate for education and civic engagement. His candidacy for Birmingham City Council District 1 is a testament to his desire to further serve and improve the community he loves.
